It could be:

Your pads have worn - the markers touch the disc and it sounds like scraping.

Your hubs are nackered due to hub nut issue.

Hi Mark,
Do the stock honda pads have wear indicator tabs?

I think it was the classic scooby that had a 'W'shaped spring steel tab
riveted to them - when the pads wore down they made a loud tinkling /scraping
noise as they contacted the disc. Had me over for a bit thinking it was a fault...

My wife often complains of a strange grinding in the rear whilst she's asleep.

I often wake up with a black eye because of it too!

If it was the brake pad wear indicators you'd hear it everytime you use the brakes, not just when you've been sat stationary for a while.

Thinking about it... it will not be the pads due to the markers touching as it only happens after the car has performed a high speed run for a period of time and then stops.

Either some alignment of the diff issue, except no indication under normal driving or the hub nuts?.

Searching for more info on the hub nuts, I do a a click/short grind noise when going into reverse, more prevelant when reversing uphill when I park at home.

When the Diff failed originally, it was first indicated by a "tinny" rattling / vibration sound which was audible all the time and slowly prgressed in noise and rattling until it became too loud even for the stereo to hide it at which point the diff had chewed itself into peices and I was just very lucky for it not to seize on me while driving.

Will book it in for a stealer visit after the Bristol meet next week.

Lower, you get the noise when you arent braking - the markers are deigned to pop out and touch the disc. Obviously you ahve to be moving, and in my case it was worse on cornering. Its also only apparent when you are going slowly, as the noise just goes after about 20 mph.

It can only be a rotating part, which is clutch / gearbox / driveshafts / diff / brakes.

Mine only did it when the car was warm.

I do think its worth a check, but more likely something like the diff.

I don't remember the specifics but i'm sure the ones on my oem rears were just thin shaped pieces of steel designed to touch the disc before the pad wears down to the back plate.

I'm certainly sure that i only heard the noise when i braked. It was that noise and the fact that it only occured when i braked that prompted me to check the rear pads. I was on a track day and the pads were only 200 miles old when they wore out so i remember it quite well.

Sure you're thinking of the honda pads mark?

Yep! Quite a few links on the web about it doing it when your foot is off the brakes.
