Unhappy Strange Grinding from the rear

During normal commute through town there is no problem.

If I have to travel any distance on the motorway or DC, constant speeds of 70-90 for a period of time, all appears okay until forced to stop at a junction.

When pulling away there is a grinding noise and vibrations from the rear as if the diff has seized up a bit or the rear brakes have not released, this lasts for the period of first gear, and occurs at each stop for a period of 10-15 minutes after a period of a long high speed cruise. After 15 minutes there is no problem, indicating things have cooled down?

I am worried that its diff related after the diff chewed itself to death late last year after only 22000 miles, which Honda replaced outside of warenty period (3 months beyound).

Normal town / every day driving there is no problem, only after the long high speed drive.

I guess something is getting hot and casuing a problem.

Any suggestions welcome before I take it back to the stealer to investigate.

It could be:

Your pads have worn - the markers touch the disc and it sounds like scraping.

Your hubs are nackered due to hub nut issue.

I'd say that's going to be it. It sounds like whatever problem caused the first diff to die has not been fixed, or possibly hasn't been fit properly - I remember someone else going through the same thing and ended up having 3 or 4 diffs fitted.

Edit: It was actually 5....

Okay thanks for the info, I will book a trip to the stealer and get them to check out the diff and shaft alignments, wheel hub nuts and check the pads while they are at it.

I love the car and dont fancy going back to Honda asking for a new diff, I will investigate the possibility of an extended warrenty - would the diff be covered by this?

This work they did on the diff should carry a warranty though?

You mean the same as the warranty on the corroding wheels?

Diff was actually replaced Oct 2005, not last year and has had no oil change since, as it was shortly after the 3yr service. I do not know what oil they put in, will hunt around to find the invoice.

I have added about 10K miles since the new Diff and oil
