Stone chip on windhsield
F@ck, last day of the S being a daily driver (Fit/Jazz has arrived!) and a stone from a totally unknow source hits the windshield!
If you can get an idea from the fairly bad pic below, should I replace the windshield or try to "fix" it? Is this likely to expand in the near future?

I'd try fixing it first. Shouldn't cost anything with fully comp insurance.
I have a similar one, I'll get it done at next service.
If the repair is no good then replace ?

It depends where on your screen the stone chip is. If it is on the driver's side then anything greater than a 5 pence piece is an MOT fail so they will not even try to fix it and would replace it. Had that on my focus only a few weeks ago.

OK, thanks guys, looks like I should just try to get it repaired for now. It is more on the passenger side and I can't see it when driving because the rear view mirror blocks it.
One last question, does the fix do anything structurally for the glass or is it just cosmetic? If cosmetic, does it completely vanish?
Bill

The fix should stop the chip developing, although I doubt its guaranteed to do so. It probably depends on the chip (and the workmanship).
If the job's well done I believe you will hardly notice it afterwards.

You also need to get the repair done very quickly. If dirt gets into the chip they won't be able to make the repair invisible as they won't be able to get all the dirt out.
Get it done as soon as possible. A lot of insurers will pay for the repair with no excess if it can be repaired as it saves them the cost of the windscreen.
