Default Sticking calipers again...

My S has not been used a great deal recently since it was serviced by Honda and i've noticed on a couple of short runs that after a couple of miles the front drivers side caliper was starting to stick on. I had this a while ago but the problem seemed to disappear. So i arranged to take it over to my mates garage as he's pretty damn handy with cars and charges a fair bit less than Honda! On the way up i got stuck in slow traffic and by the time i got there (about 3 miles away) it seemed like i was driving with the handbrake on! Checked the brakes when i got there and front drivers side and rear passenger side were very hot.

Anyway, he took the wheels off and eased the piston on the front with a screw driver. He got the caliper moving and then i pumped the brakes. Did same one the rear one but had to take the pads out to do it and then i was on my way. Awesome! Brakes are working fine and not a hint of sticking! And he didnt charge me either!

Ok, so if i dont use the car still then they will probably start sticking again at some point but just shows you dont always need to replace the calipers.. Anyone else managed to free sticking calipers off?

You might find it will come back down the line.

I freed mine off only for the problem to return a few months later. I ended up getting some calipers of a 2004 car.

I am having this issue right about now...I am in the process of taking the caliper off and checking the seals and piston.... Will probably a recon caliper soon!

word of warning... exactly the same happened to me couple of months back and all seemed to be fine once I'd had it looked at.

Last week I drove the short distance home (about 3-4miles), noticed something wasn't quite right but pushed on because I was close to home, when I jumped out I had smoke pouring from my rear arch and a glowing rear disc!

It's being sorted now by a replacement caliper but I was lucky as I was so close to home at a good time of the day... I'd have been stuffed and potentially been very dangerous if I'd been going faster/further distance...

Dukeys2k, what did you do to remedy it in the first place?

This all occured after a couple of weeks standing still with the handbrake firmly on (won't be doing that again!).

Firstly I pulled the brake on firmly again and just tried pulling off in both reverse and 1st... this seemed to free it up enough that I was able to drive it. I then took it to my local garage who had the back wheel off but couldn't see anything badly wrong and as I drove it daily seemed to correct itself.

2nd time around I had no prior warning, just jumped in it after work one day and the more serious issue happened, no long period standing still this time.

You need to get to the cause of it sticking!

You find alot of them are beyond repair due to rust, this is usually to do with the seal not fitted correctly or perished.

Its quite common on S's though
