Default Steering issue *sorted*

Hi all, think I may have Sussed my nervous steering issue, finally something is making a noise. After investigating I have found a knock, it's coming from the inner track rod, just underneath the steering column where it goes into the rack. Is this a case of just replacing the track rods inner and outer or is there any way of regreasing etc etc.

Oh and will driving like this cause any more problems?

Oh and another thing, if anyone has done this before did you have to replace anything else for the job?

you can replace just the inner rack end, if there is no play in the outer track rod end then there is no need to replace this, unless your feeling flush or just want peace of mind, you cannot re-grease them, but they are not to big a job maybe 1/2hr plus tracking or GEO set up,

Well changed both inners earlier today and the knock is still there, although maybe just me but I think the steering feels more positive. Ill get a video up of the knock and see what you lot think.

There's probably a tiny amount of play in the outers too; the nylon cups will have worn slightly.

I have a slight clunk in the 'Lude, but it's not bad enough to do anything about it just yet.

Yeah i was going to change the outers as well but was short on cash so will do them next week, they seemed solid when i fitted the inners but I goosed the boots up anyway getting them off . It's not the knock itself that im worried about its the indirect feeling to the steering, now im just putting two and two together with the knock is the same problem that is effecting the steering?

Here are 2 short vids highlighting the knock, now if everyone tells me this is normal that is fine, has anyone had anything similar?

It's not normal! You need to get someone else to wriggle the steering like that whilst you're under the car looking, listening and feeling for the source of the noise, then you need to get them to show you what orientation you should use to film videos....

Haha I couldn't be bothered to rotate the vids =p. from what I can tell the noise is coming from around the point the steering column joins into te rack, but obviously noises can travel along metal joints etc.
