Death rattle on startup, sounds shite but its pretty harmless.

Either grease it forget and about it, or just ignor it.

would not have thought you'd be any better off, as you dont know how long that will have been stood not moving at all, at least you know yours works, and move correctly so better just greacing the one you have to free it off?

Honda have always used solenoids to start. They make a distincive noise - I could tell you which car was a Honda just by it's starter motor noise

Yes, the grease maybe a bit thick in the cold, but it really isn't doing you any damage.

The time is so short and the stresses so low.

The only real danger with starter motors is that they stick on, and then overheat causing a fire.

But unless you start you engine from cold at full throttle, a little sticking isn't going to be an issue

Guys, its not good to leave this fault alone.

You can't see what the trouble is, and if you knacker the ring gear it's a massive job to pull the flywheel off and strip away the ring.
False economy IMHO.

I know it's not an S2000, but I have had this happen on a couple of Civics.

When I have gotten around to changing the clutch, flywheel has been fine.

I suppose the noise you all may be hearing is different to the one I get?

Far be it from me to dissuade you from taking your starter motor off and having a look though. Tis a bugger of a job thoughwhich is what make it annoying

Make sure you take pictures though

Yes, it's a dog of a job.
But, at the end of day something is getting damaged...

Unfortunately one of the parts is always the bank balance

I see TW also has other expensive issues looming, good luck it's not great timing is it?
