Standard Headunit AUX

Standard Headunit AUX
I've tried a search, a little confused still. Can I simply plug in an AUX cable to the back of the head unit and run the ipod as AUX? obviously no control etc, but just simple play?
Our new civic has a very handy port under the arm rest which as led to hours of ipod music so far all for a £5 cable.
I am not interested in the xlink kit for the money, just want a simple AUX connection, is it just a 3.5mm jack in the back of the headunit?
Cheers.

There is no standard Aux facility as far as I am aware. No 3.5mm in or phono connections etc. There is no Aux selection button for a start so how would you play it? Aux devices have to be through the CD changer port - so you need the more expensive wire i'm afraid.

You could always get a DICE ipod unit R3 Gen2 version (caraudiosecurity does them) - generally these are £100.
This plugs into the cd changer connector of your oem head unit and allows you to connect and charge your ipod/iphone.
There is also a 3.5mm aux in connector of the DICE Unit where you can plug in and play music from other devices.

i've not seen the back of my HU, but there is an AUX button on the front...hence assuming there was an AUX input at the back....
think i'll just pull it out and take a look....

Sorry, forgot to mention that with the dice unit attached, you can use your headunit or dash control buttons to skip/change tracks/playlists etc. Saves you having to fiddle with the ipod whilst driving which can obviously be risky.

i'm not fussed about HU, just want to know if i can connect ipod to what is there...
I've had, and too many friends have had too many HU's knicked from cars and damage caused to ever want to change a HU again! The days of putting a 'sub' in the boot and 6x9's in the parcel shelf are behind me now...
just want my ipod/phone library available really...

does anyone have any experience of this?

Looks just the job to me? will run the ipod via 3.5mm jack, that presumably is easy enough to route out from behind the stereo and into the cargo net somewhere?
For £30 ish, seems considerably cheaper than the various £120+ items
also - i watched a youtube vid on how to take out the HU, looks straight forward enough to get the facia off to get to the screws... any more tips beyond 'wiggle' as don't really want to snap any clips.
cheers

I remember reading a post on here submitted a while back (I think by Mikey K) mentioning that the centre console surround should be removed for facelift models.
I found this a good tip on my MY08 to prevent damage - especially when trying to get the head unit surround back in.
It pops off really easy. Just remove the gear knob.
