Default SR04 YCA...

Hello

Anyone here owned this car? Just a hunch...

Anyway I had a test drive today and loved the thing

I've checked the FAQ but have a few more stupid questions...

Firstly the gearbox seemed to crunch slightly when going from 1st to 2nd despite being quite gentle. Other gears where ok including dropping down to 2nd from higher gears. After around 10 miles the 1st to 2nd shift was ok - would this just be the gearbox being cold? Should the gearbox oil need topping up/replacing? Or is it something more serious...? I used to have a Civic Type-R (FN2) and that never had any trouble going from 1st to 2nd.

Secondly, the CEL came on about a mile into the test drive Obviously until I get a code this could mean anything but the car as a number of modifications including a AEM intake and a Japspeed (de?)cat...

Original cat and intake box in the boot

First result of looking up 'Japspeed S2000'...

http://www.japspeed.co.uk/Honda-S2000/Hond...Pipe/p-8-1-156/

Which appears to be nothing more than a pipe...

Would this be a dumb question asking if the CEL and modifications could be related? We'll have to get the car up on ramps to have a closer look at this Japspeed cat mod.

Hi Mark

Gearbox thing fairly normal.

CEL might be triggered by the O2 sensor on the decat, if it does not have the fix. Get them to stick the cat back on, and the CEL should reset itself, or get a reader to it, check it, reset it and drive it with the cat.

Best of luck

AquilaEagle,

Thanks for the reassuring reply I'll probably advise they check the gearbox oil regardless?

With the decat hopefully things will be clearer once we get the car up on ramps and check for the O2 sensor, failing that fitting the old cat back on.

Bit of a giveaway that,

Gearbox thing is normal, I would change the oil for sure and the clutch fluid.

Gearbox normal...please note that 2nd is not directly down from first...more down and ever so slightly to the left...changing slowly usually helps too

Your decat might need a spacer (called an anti fouler) so the O2 sensor is not sitting in the dirty air...

Looks like this:

Not saying that is the correct size...but you get the idea

Quite likely, as others have said, that the CEL and de-cat are linked, but the only way to be sure is by plugging in a reader. Even with the anti-foulers the CEL light can still come on every once in a while.

Ok cheers guys I'll probably just stick the normal cat on if I get the car, I tried a stock S2000 which seemed quick enough anyway.

Clutch fluid? Does the S2000 have a wet clutch?

Mark85, make sure you get a reader onto the computer before you buy this car so you know what is causing the CEL, rather then presume because it has a de-cat. Perhaps I did not make this clear enough.

gt750boy,

Don't worry - I'll make sure we find the cause of the CEL and get it fixed before any money changes hands

Clutch fluid is for the slave cylinder actuation, it's not a wet clutch like some motorcycles.
