Another plug for the Winchester dealership (was Derek Warwick, now Alan Day)!
When my car was pretty new the soft-top rattled. Two of the mechanics road tested it and located the two metal struts (or whatever) that were touching intermittently. They attached a rubber stick-on pad on the lower one, and repeated on the other side of the top just in case. No charge, has worked for over 3 years so far.
Don't confuse that with the sound of a seat belt squeaking against the leather seat. Get the leather polish out (Autoglym) and that will smooth the leather sufficiently to cure it.
As to soft tops squeaking when they are up, of course they do, but you should be travelling fast enough to obscure it with wind noise!
