Default Squeaky brakes (still)

I assumed my brakes needed changing and thought the pads must have been down to nothing as they were squeaking all the time.

I got a set of Honda discs and pads from Cox's. Upon removal of the old pads they had around 5-6mm on them (you can still see the grove in the middle). They had worn a little unevenly. The discs had a lip on the outer edge.

I fitted the new discs and pads and yet I am still getting the squeaking after a few hundred miles. The old pads were Honda (Ferodo) and the new ones I think are Jurid.

Is this a common thing?

Have you got the shims fitted as well. Apparently they help eliminate the squeal (although I haven't got them fitted and mine don't squeal go figure)

Yup; shims, lots of copper ease & ensure the anti-chatter springs are replaced.

Copper grease all over the back of the pad

When changing the pads it's well worth cleaning everything thoroughly

Yeah - not the front of the pads.

I had this a couple months ago , pads and discs changed, noise still persists . I removed brakes again , upon closer inspecion my left piston dust boot was split, ordered a rebuild kit. stripped the calipers replaced all the seals as well as giving the calipers a good going over. Scotch brite to the pistons as one had a bit of pitting . Been fine ever since. Not saying it's definitely this though. I would inspect the seals , drag the piston out maybe a cm just to inspect the rows on the dust boot for any splits. Don't bring it out too much or the seal will pop off and you'll have to remove the caliper completely. Check edge of piston for any rust or pitting. The rust will usually spread to the outer edge if it is bad inside. Good luck and all the best

Thanks for all the replies. The pads came with the metal shims which I did fit. I only applied copper grease to the top and bottom edges of the pads where they sit in the metal clips. I assumed that fitting the shims would mean that copper grease was not required on the back of the pads. Oh well I might take them off again at some point and apply some more copper grease. It does seem to be getting quieter now thouogh, only getting a little bit of squeal towards the end of braking just before coming to a stop.

Anti-chatter springs? Never heard of them, do you mean the metal clips top and bottom of the caliper which the pads fit into?

Edit: I've just found this post and mine does not have those metal clips. Presumably they are on the fronts as well?
