Default Squeaky Brakes

Since the Bedford track day, my brakes have been squeaking at low speeds, even with the brakes not applied.

I'm hoping this is just a build up of brake dust and nothing more serious.

Is there any way of solving this?

Would a good hose down suffice?

Cheers

Nick

which pads.. when were they fitted?

I doubt washing the wheels/brakes will do anything, but you never know.

I take it you've got plenty of lining left? The brakes are designed to squeal when they get to low.

If it is just mild squeaking it doesn't mean the pads are stuffed - AFAIK that is a much louder squeal.

I had little squeaks on my 02, and the dealer cleaned them out, applied grease to certain bits and it was fine. Didn't cost much IIRC - not warranty really.

IIRC it is sometimes the shims that makes the noise and not the actual pads themselves.

Give the shims a good greasing and that should sort it.

The pads were fitted about 6 weeks ago and are standard. Bedford was harsh, but not *that* harsh. It's not wear!

I've got some R4S pads on the way from AE, so I think I'll just wait until they arrive.

At the back of my mind something is nagging me about the discs. What are the symptons of a mildly warped disc?

vibration under braking.

squeals are fixed by copper greasing the pads on the backside between pads and shims

Cool. I've not got any vibration at all!

When will you be sending the Porterfields out Ian?
