I'm thinking of writing a book about Springfield Honda. Just had a text from Dave (6500rpm) today, I'll let him tell the story when he gets back - if the AA man has a flatbed

I'm in a bit of a quandry, because there are two major issues here and I don't know how best to deal with them. If any of you have any advice...

Now, do I mention the brakes in the letter to Honda UK, or do I just let Springfield sort this out themselves? If I get started on things that Springfield have cocked up in the last 18 months this letter to HUK is going to turn into a 10 page rant.

Or shall I just keep the Honda UK letter purely for the spacers and fight the brakes thing seperately.

Just for fun here's the list of Springfield cock ups I've had to endure....

Nov 2002:
Silver S2k bought, faults on collection...

No V5 form
No Tonneau cover
No spare keys
Stone chips not touched up
Dent in the front wheel arch.
Eu import sold as UK car
Suspension realignment not done, they couldn't find the settings
1 owner car turns out to be 2 owners
Car returned for full refund

March 2004:

63k Service and MOT
Asked to find clonk in suspension - couldn't find it
Front wing scratched, now repaired

April 2004:
Car taken back for suspension clonk, suspension bolts retorqued as per my suggestion

May 2004:
Front pads changed - I've since found out that the discs are shot

August 2004
Rear pads changed - rear discs have ridges on them

Neil

Id go with the full list of stuff to HUK, that way they know it isnt a one off missed item but a catalog of error on their part.

Get in touch with HUK first and get a ref number. Mention this and the fact you are getting advice from trading standards, legal people and it will be on the S2000 owners clubs forums and watch the guys face drop.

As for springfield, ive used the Gateshead, Sunderland and Durham branch and personally i find the Durham branch way better than the others.

Terrible story Neil.

However, with all this talk of Trading stds and Honda UK etc, I'm still a bit puzzled.

What exactly is it that you want now?

Until you answer this question (in your head, not to me), it seems pretty pointless contacting anyone.

I want to know that the car handles safely and that there has been no damage caused.

I also want to know why 4 dealers on 9 different occasions failed to do work that they charged for.

And finally I want Honda to perform a full inspection service on the car to make sure that other jobs that I've paid for have been done, most importantly: correct diff oil, checked valve alignment and proper suspension check.

I'd also say you were due some kind of good will gesture.

On more than one occasion you have paid for services that haven't been done or carried out correctly.

I would personally expect some kind of goodwill gesture such as some free services. Doesn't cost them that much and they have to take some responsibility that their dealers (I know its not that straightforward) have missed this alarming problem for so long.

I think you will get a lot of slopey shoulders to being with i.e. HUK saying its a dealer issue. That's why you need to think about bring TS or a magazine into play early on.

Like Gad says though, make sure its clear in your mind what you want in terms of recompense. If you're happy with a full tech check let them know this early on so that they can see an easy way out for themselves.

Goodluck dude!

PDI by Camden, Wigan - who then changed to Savoy Honda

We bought ours from Wigan, but we never take it there for a service since the sales person tried to tell us that S2000's don't have spare wheels! We checked with the head of the service team that the spacers where taken out and he seemed to know what he was talking about but still wouldn't go there for a service.

Pl's damper detoeritated rapidly after her spacer was removed - as a passenger it was easy to notice the difference and the handling went to pieces. Be very careful with it pending resolution of the problem with HUK.

Thanks for the warning Craig. I'll be taking it easy until things are sorted.
