Default Speeding - solicitor, or go it alone?

Hi everyone

I have a court appearance in April, 101mph on the motorway.

Before anybody slaps my wrists, I take full responsibility - my choice, I was driving, not trying to weasel out of it.

But - I do need to minimise the ban for various reasons (mostly financial and work-related).

Question is - do I fork out

Can't help, but it's probably worth posting this on topic. Opinion in the past has been to represent yourself.

Good luck.

Save your money - you can do just as good a plea in mitigation yourself as a solicitor could. That's a ridiculous amount of money for a straightforward matter like this (and I should know - I'm a solicitor, albeit not one that does RTA work).

Dress smartly, appear contrite and humble and explain how much you need to keep your licence not only for your own sake but also for that of your employer/colleagues/poor little orphans you help out at the weekend/whoever else. If possible, get your boss to either write a letter on your behalf explaining why retaining your licence is imperative or, even better, get him/her to come along with you to the hearing.

The starting point at more than 30mph over the limit is a ban but it's possible to avoid it. My brother got done doing 92 in a 60 and still managed to get away with 6 points and a

Slapped wrists?

You have our sympathies (well, mine at least).

IIRC, you might be able to apologise your way out of a short ban, but if you can't, at least any points go from your licence.

Good luck, either way.

what Mark says
also if its a local court, go down & find a solicitor who knows the bench it might save you pennies in the end.

Good luck

LOL I'm not admitting to anything above 101, that's what the laser gun said.....

It's a bummer, happened last September and only just got the court date for beginning of April.

550 seems standard price for a speeding conviction, in fact it's towards the lower end - been quoted
