I have heard guys comment on this being a common problem, is this so? does it need some kind of gasket/sealant to hold it in place? if not how often should it be re torqued? and does anyone know the torgue setting?

There was a spark plug product update - the new plugs had a different gasket on it to prevent it from unscrewing from engine vibrations.

I had an My00 that had a ticking sound, this turned out to be loose plug, they replaced the head and everything was fine. This was on N0 4

Did your car have the spark plug/oil bolt recall? If not, I guess you'd better get it done.

Chaps - I'm assuming that this recall will be done on cars no longer in warranty given that it was a 'recall'?

Yes the head was changed under warranty. The oil bolt recall gave an extra years warranty on the engine. The recall on my old one was done at the same time as the head was changed. It was a MY00 BTW
