Good enough for the likes of VW to sell £25k cars that rely solely on it, so I'm happy to take the risk.

They do expire after 3 years though so if you that route, make sure you change it on schedule.

Last time I spoke to a guy racing at Mallory using it on one of his tyres cos he had no spare.

Lasted him the day (2 or 3 races).

I guess it's a (small) weight gain as well, for those who like such things

Might just rock a can of tyre weld and frisbee my spare into the Thames.

My Elise S1 came from the factory with a can of tyre weld so I figured I'd junk the space saver on the S2000. For any tyre shredding things that couldn't be fixed by tyre weld, I have AA cover.

Isn't it that you can't use the tyre anymore after filling it with tyre weld? whereas if you put the flat in your boot and stick the space saver on chances are big you can still repare the tyre and therefore don't have to buy a new one.

Manufacturers won't care about that.

TBH if I put a nail through my tyre I'd probably change it anyway, it's not about putting all that load on a bad tyre.

Cool, I'm going to ditch my spare and just run with a few cans of TW.

All it has to do is get me to a garage anyway I suppose.

It's like everything. Risk vs cost at the end of the day.

I've had AA cover for umpteen years and never called 'em out. I still have it though.

I had a great idea - buy one of these:

http://www.conticomfortkit.co.uk/

Looks great - full self contained, so no mucking about with separate bottles of goo.

Then I discovered two problems: it won't fit in the spare wheel recesss, and it blows the 10A fuse on the accessory socket. It now sits in the boot and I have a 15A fuse for temporary use.

How's that better than a tin of squirty goo?
