I'm Irish but now live in Sussex - I agree with 2 of the recommendations above. The West is beautiful but you won't beat the Ring of Kerry (no jokes please...it's a spectacular drive).

Not too much of a journey from Rosslare and it is truly magnificent, the people and pubs are fabulous and the roads (thank you Mr EU ) are now very good.

Beware 2 things though - don't take your S to Dublin, the traffic simply never moves at all (ave speed is 4 mph !). Secondly down the country you will find people who can still be troubled by a dual carraigeway.

I always hire cars when visting my parents. It is not uncommon to come over the brow of a hill at 90mph and find a farmer in a Lada complete with Sheep passengers poodling along at 25

If you're lucky with the weather, its hard holiday to beat.

I would second gaddaffis kenmare recommendation thinks its about 45mins from killarney - stunning roads, great pubs and restaurants etc... kilkenny also cool. Havent been in the s2k but took my bike over there last year (did kenmare-norwich in one 15 hour stint-inc 2hours ferry-would recommend splitting that journey into 2!!!!)
