Default Sounds like a Taxi

Does anyone else find when they start there S it sounds like a Diesel, It seems to be just while it warms up but I would like to know if this is the case with all S.

Cheers Ant.

There are a bit noisy on the starter but once running mine does not sound anything like a diesel. If you can here clatter when cold I'd go to a dealer quickly.

Check you oil first. Does the sound go when you rev the engine, mine did this, got worse and worse, went from start up to all the time at idle, needed a new timing chain tensioner in the end.

I think AE had this Hopefully he will be along soon. Mine rattles a bit when cold. I believe its a bit of a Honda trait but they do loosen and I think there is something which can be adjusted.

I'd say mine was 'a bit tappety' but I expect they have been superceded !!

Mine's dead sweet right from the start. It revs slightly higher at tickover when cold but sounds like a well oiled sewing machine.

think AE may have had a bit more than the timing chain tensioner done under warranty if i remember rightly. Think he may have had the timing chain done as well. Very expensive job (this is what my local honda garage wanted to do first!!) I suggested they start with the tensioner and that fixed it all, thankfully!!!!!

The engine goes to 9K, ergo the chains & sprockets tend to wear prematurely.

replacing the tensioners is part of the job. Ships, ha'p'orths of tar & stuff.

clatter at start up which goes after warm or rpm = timing chain tensioner.

failure to replace = fecked engine

How much should a Honda dealer charge to replace the timing chain tensioner?
