Sound - Graphic equaliser/Alpine Imprint
Having just got a fancy Alpine CDA-9887 installed, I've run the software that measures the sound characteristics of the cabin. The 9887 has software that compensates for this to produce a better sound.
Anyway, I thought it might be of use to highlight where the major peaks and troughs are in the S2000's cabin.
As we all have different speakres, amps, head units and so on, there will be small differences, but the overall characteristics will be similar I think. If you want to give this a try, please do, if you;re a cynic, then you won't
Major peaks
100Hz
1.2Khz
Big bloomer all the way from 5Khz to 8Khz
Major troughs
500Hz
3Khz
Here's a picture of what it looks like. If anyone else has done this, then please feel free to add your comments/thoughts.

For what it's worth, my manual measurements were as follows:
Subwoofer in the boot wlaurent/darkside drivers side enclosure
Components in the doors as per 2002 onwards
Sub is 1.2m from driver,
Left Woofer is 1.1m from driver
Left Tweeter is 1.0m from driver
Average Left is 1.05m
Right Woofer is 0.7m from driver
Right Tweeter is 0.5m from driver
Average Right is 0.6m from driver
Subwoofer is furthest away, so has no time correction.
The difference between Sub and Left is 0.15m, so a delay of 0.4s
The difference between Sub and Right is 0.6m, so a delay of 1.7ms
If you have no sub, then only the Right needs correction as the Left is now furthest away. The difference between Left and Right is 0.55m, so a delay of 1.6ms.
Refer to your Alpine manual for details on how to set this.
Update on the Imprint. Because I'm a numpty, I somehow managed not to upload the Imprint settings to the headunit, and also had a virtually flat battery from the setup time.
Fortunately the battery has recovered and I've done a new setup with only one mic position rather than the 6 recommended.
With the roof or windows up, it is remarkably good. The imaging is superb and my sub has finally disappeard, although it is most certainly working. I suspect that, like most people I was using it to provide mid-bass rather than true sub bass.
With the roof down, the bottom end does need a bit of help from the sub so I simply switch the Imprint/MultiEQ off and return to some of my own settings.
I look forward to experimenting a bit more with it when I can find somewhere quieter than my garage on a windy day with planes going overhead every few minutes.

Simon, will u have a look at mine on the brekkie run next time? I think it can do this stuff, but not sure how
In the meantime, the ipersonalize site is very useful for helping to set up the time correction stuff, all you need is a tape measure (although I've done the right and left for you) and it'll calculate the time alignment for your head unit. You can muck about with the equalizer settings too and create a download CD. however, the EQ settings are more trial and error than anything else.
http://i-personalize.alpine.com/eue/index.html You need to register but it's reasonably good.
