Well its provoked more exposure on here never mind other, than quoting 0-60 in 8 seconds...

Seems to have worked as an eye catcher...

and if you're in the need for a family car, I get one over a new Vectra / Mondeo for not a lot more....

When you're sitting behind a queue of 45mph dawdlers nose-to-tail on the A4 near Marlborough and need to overtake 2 or 3 cars at once because the sheep always drive so close to each other (despite the Highway code telling them to "leave enough room for a car to overtake and pull in between you and the car in front") 50-70 time is pretty important.

It's what makes for effortless overtaking. And is far more useful than 0-60, which has to be the most irrelevant measure of a car's ability these days.

One thing the S is not very good at is the 50-70, in 2nd you need to change and in 3rd you're out of vtec.

Matt,

I'll expect the Jaguar for cost when I drop by, is the margin 12.5% still?

I hear 2 year old petrol 3.0V6 is the bargain of the range at the moment......

It's still a bit of a silly measure, dependant on gear ratios as much as anything else.
What about 40 to 60 times, or 60 to 90 times?

Quite.

And how many other cars advertise their 50-70mph times in this way? I certainly haven't seen any, so how is the average Joe supposed to compare?

They're not. It's marketing pure and simple.

It's as meaningful as 0-60 or any other measurement of speed over time.

But it gives a better impression of what the car is like to drive day to day than 0-60 which seems to have become the way most people decide on a car's performance.
