I had the same problem 3 months after purchase so well within the 12 month extended warranty, and ended up sending all sorts of (very polite) letters and photos to Honda (UK). The local dealer denied he had come across the problem before, even though I know someone on here had a roof replaced because of the same problem, and made comments that it had been cut!

The best I could get in the end was Honda (UK) supplying the new roof, and me paying for the fitting! I was not happy, but was very embarrassed at the state of the roof and paid up a few weeks ago to get it done, before Winter, to the tune of

Ian King - MY 02
Holes on both sides at bottom edge of roof, behind side windows.
Stitching also splitting along sides of roof near to front edge (visible when retracted).
Contacted supplying dealer (Alan Day Portsmouth) who agreed that these faults are due to a design/manufacturing defect, but refused to replace the hood as it was not covered under the extended warranty...

If it was me in your situation I would attempt to purse an extended warranty claim (keeping full documented details of all the outcomes), then pay for a specialist to make repairs and then take Honda UK (HUK) to the Small Claims Court to try to get my money back. Much more chance going this route in my opinion (HUK are the contracting party for your extended warranty - don't waste your time with the TPA or their pathetic complaints procedure).

Thanks, yea I'm sure your right that I'll get no where, but I'll give it a shot for now, and then do as you've said for plan B.

I've submitted the issue to the SMMT, mentioning that it's an issue with a large number of people on this forum, with a link to this thread. So, let's see what they say...

Holy thread resurrection Batman!!!

Anyone is lucky to get 5-6 years from any ragtop on any car, after all it ain't steel. Luckily there are many alternative suppliers/fitters to choose from.
As the last S was made 10 years ago so no one stands a chance of the original being sound, unless it's been a never used garage queen.

The roof on ours was replaced just after I took delivery, maybe within a month due to it tearing after delivery, and now 10 years on it’s still good (touch wood) although yes, the car is almost always garaged and low mileage, it’s also cleaned and treated annually, I suspect if it had been outside it probably would have been a different story.

You have a 64 year old rag top? Hell, I thought I was doing good with my 13 year, 160k mile rag top on our '06.
