These photos were all taken on the A939 and B9008 within several miles of the Lecht Ski Centre (about an hour or so west of Aberdeen).

The performance of the winter tyres is nothing short of amazing - I was driving on all sorts of snow, hard packed to 2-3 inches of fallen snow. The only other "mod" was 50 kg of sand in the boot - on reflection, 25 kg would have been adequate as the front steering was a tad light on the dry tarmac.
I would say the car on these tyres performed as well as, if not better than (better feel for what each end is doing, and easy to correct), any front wheel drive on ordinary tyres.
A mesh intake grille would also have been useful - after I drove through some drifts, I had an engine compartment full of snow - I never realised that the space behind the front grille wasn't open to the ground, and that area is very difficult to clear of snow manually. A CAI would have been interesting!
The stretch of road above was slightly uphill, hard packed snow, with fresh drifts across half of it, up to 1 feet high. I was able to drive through these as shown with no difficulty at all (except snow coming over the bonnet into the cockpit!)
I even pulled away relatively easily after I stopped to take these photos.
The only grip problems occurred if you were too heavy with your right foot - generally, if over c 2500 - 3000 revs the back would step out, but easing off brought it easily under control straightaway, so it was never a concern. Pulling away was no problem as long as you kept the revs right down and let her crawl out. Right foot traction control worked very well for this!
I never went above 40 mph on the snow, as I reckoned I could probably catch a rear end slide up to , but not over that speed. I don't know if a better driver could slide his way around corners at 30-40 mph on a narrow road, but I wasn't going to risk trying it. That said, an airfield would be enormous fun in these conditions - grip is just right to have fun, without worrying about getting stuck, are having an off.
