I remember last year when we just collected the Impreza getting cocky that 4WD would mean that we would be safer in the winter. I spun it at around 10mph turning into Sandmoor Drive in Leeds Pam thought I'd done it on purpose
A day later I was crawling down the same street when somebody decided that with 2 inches of packed snow on the road it was safe for him and his son to stand in the middle of the street (complete with snow board) and wait for us to pass. As all four wheels tried to lock and ABS was hammering, the car was drifting nicely towards them. Stepping back as I slid to a stop about 2ft past where they were stood, the father proceeded to give me a mouthful of abuse. I did point at the pavement about 6ft away from him.... Pedestrians as well as drivers need to adjust for the conditions!

in the snow - Richard Burns with 200hp 4WD and ABS technology are no match for a MkIII Escort wearing winter tyres being driven by a Finnish housewife.
I went out late last night in the S and could see the frost winking at the HID's. Feeling the steering wheel go light when you are coming to a corner even when you are only going at 30% is a horrible feeling - visions of posting my incident on the board flash through my mind during the miliseconds before you get the grip back. I think the board is a good conscience to keep it within your bounds of driving talent.

LOL.. I think the prospect of posting my shunt on the board after all the 'gobbing off' I've done on the subject is the biggest deterrent to getting silly for me. That and the thought of looking at my mangled baby and wishing I could rewind the tape a couple of minutes and record over it! Shame you can't do that in life sometimes!

A fine and noble way to spend the evening.

We'll I done it at last
I managed to traverse the mile or so to my local B&Q and back on snow covered roads (well, sklightly white anyway!) and have survived to tell the tale. No problems to report but I hope the roads get gritted before I have to get into work tomorrow.....
