Default Slightly worrying

Since ordering my S2000 everytime I feel the liz up with petrol I look to see if they sell Super Unleaded and no-where seems to.

Do you guys ever have any problem finding petrol...and does it hurt to stick a fiver of normal in to get you to a garage....this could be worrying.

If I am desperate I shall stick in some cheapo stuff but I tend to use Optimax virtually all of the time.
In Stafford, super unleaded is pretty easy to find.
I would not worry about this too much.
Do a search, this has been talked about many times.

Lotusman - I really dont think you will have problems finding Super around London - most Shell stations sell Optimax (probably the best petrol out there for the S2000), Esso stations sell 97 RON, even Sainsburys sell 97RON.

In emergencies the odd tankfull of 95RON will be fine

Do you mean you can't find ANY super unleaded (97 Ron) or Shell Optimax (98+) ?

For about the first six months I had the car I used Tesco super unleaded (97) till they stopped doing it, and since then I've used Esso super unleaded also 97 Ron. I can't get Optimax without going miles out of my way so I don't bother. Those who do use Optimax don't claim to notice any difference.

According to my manual my car car can be run on lower grade petrol (95) as long as I don't experience any pinking from the engine. I have used 95 during the fuel shortage when it was all I could get but it was usually mixed partially with 97 Ron stuff still in the tank. I didn't experience any problems. Having said that I think you'd be unwise to run the car on less than 97 if you absolutely don't have to.

Hope this helps.

I was worried about this when I first got my ITR. There used to be a nice website (www.ispypetrol.com) that helped, but they've shut down from lack of sponsorship. I don't tend to run the S2000's tank very low though. It's a case of learnign over time. For example on the M1 south from Leeds towards Leicester, I know the "Weclome Break" (first services south of Sheffield) has Optimax, so I'll often fill up there.

When I first got the ITR I used to take a 40 miles round trip on some nices roads to fill up. I later found Super Unleaded, about 2 miles from me... but kept doing the 40 mile trip for the drive

I have had another thought Lotusman (wow - 2 in one day ) - when you say you 'look to see if they sell unleaded' do you just look at the big price signs outside the stations? If so, they very, very rarely price super unleaded, but often sell it. Shell do tend to have large Optimax banners all over the place tho'.

For the first few fill up's I just used whatever was convenient. However I am convinced that Optimax is a superior Fuel, and go out of my way to use this all the time. This is sometimes a pain, and necessitates navigation by Shell sites.

No..I do actually look at the pumps and not the prices...maybe it is just bad luck.

Saying that I passed a Shell on the way to work today that sells optimax so thats cool...just don't want to be stuck on a run out and be looking for SUL :

No, you'll be fine in this part of the world - you'll quickly find garages that sell SUL, and failing that, the odd dose of standard unleaded will not be the end of the world. (Another advantage of Optimax is it is generally 5p/ltr. cheaper than other SUL's!
