The speed is pretty bad, although a vast number of us would be hypocrits to complain there, however the mobile phone thing is appalling. I have driven ast stupidly high speeds and there is NO WAY I could concentrate on anything but the car and the road ahead.

I cannot see how this retard could have given 100% to his driving and for that I think he should have receiced a far heavier fine / sentence. I think they obviously could not prove the mobile phone charge.

A recent study (by the RAC I seem to remember) suggests that using a hand-held mobile promotes the same degradation in driving ability as being drunk.

Given that, this guy should have been banned indefinitely & given a custodial sentence.

As a biker, I am always more wary of 3 groups of motorists: White Van Man, School-Run Mum & Mr. BMW. My girlfriend challenges my opinion that it is always one of these groups that I spot on the phone.

i nearly got run over the other day (while out running) by a white van man turning left at a mini roundabout without indicating BECAUSE he was on his mobile and didn't have a spare hand.. so i punched his van as he went past me.

totally ridiculous..

plenty of places to pull over where he was.. i only wish he'd stopped so i could punch him instead of his van

It's not even as though hands-free kits are expensive. Most contracts seem to give you one free these days!

If they spend so much on a car I don't know why hands free is such a big deal.

It's pathetic.

I wonder if incidents with couriers and the like will lead to corporate action if they are not supplied with hands free kit?

I see this quite a lot on the roads now. I always give them shit if I see it happening. Apparently 2 days after the new laws came in, a motorcyclist was killed by someone driving with their phone to their ear. Its one of my pet hates.

So did we - so all our engineers have hands free kits issued and get a written warning if they are reported not using it.
