Default Should my S go BING when I turn the ignition on?

Now the mornings are darker and I'm using the headlights more, I have been caught out on a few occasions by not turning the lights off when I park up. Quite often the lights on warning alarm dosen't sound when I open the door. Previous to my S I had a Scooby and when you remove the key it kills the lights and I keep on forgetting in my new car.

I have also noticed that sometimes I hear a Bing Bing Bing when I insert the keys, but it's quite a rare occurence. I put it down to the dodgy factory alarm/immobiliser.

So 3 questions really, should it bing every time, does the same buzzer provide the noise for both events and how do I replace it?

Thanks in advance (and I know I shoudn't be such a numpty for leaving the lights on either way).

Okay if you feel a little sheepish, that's okay you should. There are several different bings

There is a bing for leaving the car with the headlights on but the key out.
There is a bing for having the car on without your seatbelt in
There is a bing for having the key in and the door open

Hope that helps

If it's not coming on when you open the door and have the lights on then something is funny though must try different options.

There should be a high pitched "lights on" warning if you leave the lights on, take the keys out of the ignition and open the door.

If you leave the keys in the ignition on position 1 with the door open you'll get the annoying repeated beeps. Again, a warning you've left the keys in the ignition.

Thanks guys. Think I've def got a problem with the buzzer. I have tried leaving the lights on and opening the door and manually pushing the door switch and every time I've tried the buzzer works fine. The courtesy lights always work which must be tied in somehow to the lights on alarm. The only thing left is the buzzer itself. Interesting about the different warning Bings as mine is pretty much silent.

Are these bings better than no bings? or would you say they are... badder bings?!

My 01 didnt bing or beep at all. The friendly breakdown guy came to visit me 3 times during my ownership because I left my lights on Initially I was a little sheepish but from then onwards I just blamed it on the dumb car for not beeping at me.

I too went from a Cooper S, an even dumber car but at least that had follow me home lights.

Did it stop at the front door or come in with you?

Be scary to wake up & it's shining at the foot of the bed.
