Default Shock Absorbers - anyone HAD to have them changed?

Still trying to determine what the droning sound is on my car, convinced it is not tyre noise now as a dealer suggested it might be.

I have noticed the car seems very bouncy in the last week and was wondering if maybe a shock has leaked and perhaps it is that making the noise as well - picking up vibration from the wheel and transmitting it through the chassis. Does this sound possible??

It has been a while since I have owned a car with shocks (4 Xantias before!) -

How long are the shocks on the S expected to last?
Has anyone else had to change shocks because of failure?
Any ideas of cost to replace?

Keep forgetting to try bouncing each corner by hand to see if there is noise from the shocks, (a little worried about doing this on the front for fear of denting the wings!) but will give it a go this week.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

- Frisky.

Frisky,

3 yrs 2 months, 16000 miles, & still on original shocks - I've had no problems.

Good Luck with your problem.

Your shocks should be good for at least 60,000+ miles. Unless you have a faulty one or you live down some very very bumpy road your shocks should be fine.

Do you get a clonk as well? I'm convinced that the diff is failing on mine, but still trying to find someone to believe me. 34 months, 38k

Sorry Rob, not noticed a clonk, just a really annoying drone sounds like a hollow box vibrating against the chassis - it's driving me nuts!!

Have you tried a search for diff problems on here? There seems to have been various issues of noises from and around the diff, also might be your spare wheel loose?

If the rear shocks were gone, and you were hitting the bump stops to cause the noise, you'd know about it. The backend of the car would be all over the place. (I know - I have managed to hit the bump stops.... )

I doubt it's the shocks.
