Shameful Performance vs Clio
Pulled up behind a Clio Sport 182 the other day and thought this will be fun...
Only it wasn't I was expecting to be able to pull out and overtake him but all I managed to do was keep up. Do I need to take my car to the garage to check the engine?!

The S2000 is tricky car to launch at speed. You were lucky you weren't on a twisty B road, the little Clio would have left you for dead IMO.
Quick little pocket rockets those. I had a 206 GTI 180 before the S2000 and that wasn't a patch on the Clio handling wise.. Shame really, seeing as Peugeot were at one point the king of hot hatches!

I had fun with a 182 cup and was surprised there was so little in it between us. My boss has the newer 197 cup as his 'beater' and it is a rather nice car. Holds the road very well.
Quite tempted myself.

I swapped a 182 cup for my s2000. The clio was 10 times easier to launch off the line, and 100 times easier to drive quickly through the twisty stuff. Very different breed of car to the s2000 so can't really compare the two IMHO

I had a s2000, and now have a 172 cup as a beater, The s2000 is quicker, but the little clio is quite nippy too.. not much in it really. The little clio pissed off some much much more expensive metal, and the fact you can get a 03/04 for 4K is a bargin.

A mate had a 182 before getting his Focus ST. S2000 was much quicker.

These threads amuse me.
The S is 10 years old, the engine was ahead of its time back then and still is in some aspects, but hot hatches have caught up and the bar has been raised IMHO the S 'just' keeps up.
I have noticed in the years i have owned it, its a difficult car to launch/drive fast and correctly etc etc but rewarding once you do, by that driver skill/knowledge is important rather than putting your foot down like subarus's etc.
Clio is a good little car from reports i havent driven one though.
I havent had a go against a 182 so i cant comment, though pulling (not by loads) away from a CTR and Astra VXR i think a clio182 wouldnt be a problem. The S is stronger once you take advanatage of the high revving nature, of course this is padt 60mph.
Then again i do have modifications
