Default shall i have it.

Hi all. Just like to hear some views on an engine iv been offered.

Had the s2 for 5 and bit years now and it's now got 87k on her. I been offered an engine out of a 08 that been over revved at only 28 miles as was taken out for replacement. Now there is a slight mark on one piston and a bent valve and i guess the retainer wound need changing.

so the offer

£800

what would you do?

Cheers all.

Stefan

I'd buy it if it was offered to me and I could have a more thorough look over it beforehand.

Head off, inspect all valves, replace bent one and the valve guide. New AP2 retainers. New head gasket. Then keep it under a sheet in the garage.

If you decide you don't want it put me in touch, I'll put it to good use

You really want to be changing all the retainers if its been over revved.

'Might' be a good buy if you're prepared to strip the engine to replace the valve yourself. But you are taking a bit of gamble.

If it was over reved at 28 miles it has not been run in properly.
What other damage has been done?
It's your gamble

If it did turn out to be junk, could you recover a reasonable chunk of the cost by selling bits of it?

Maybe rebuild for fun, but it's not necesarily any better an engine than a typical 40,000 miler out of a rear-parking incident S2000!

How complete is the engine ?

injectors? coil packs? inlet manifold ? sensors? alternator?

Has it been touched at all since it was removed- ie has someone taken the head / sump off?

edit to say- a DBW engine is not a straight swop as far as ive heard
