Serious, serious engine problem

It's very easy to ever rev it, just go from 6th gear to 2nd and you will be doing 3 zillion rpm. The electronic limiter does nothing for you then. Kaboom. Or often delayed kaboom.

It's a secondhand car though.
For people who do stupid things like downchange mid-corner, it's very easy to go from 5th to 2nd. Ask EP3/EM3 owners!
Although that normally causes interference between valves & pistons & the conred exits stage right.
Your symptoms (run crank bearings) are more associated with the Bad Oil Blues.

have they compression tested each cylinder? that will give you a pretty good idea to which bearing has failed if its a faulty big end.
please keep us informed as be interesting to see if it has suffered similar problems to mine did.
if they offer to re-build it because of a failed big end be cautious of debris from it being thrown around the engine oil ways by the oil pump and make sure they replace the oil pump with a brand new one. dont want them to rebuild it then have some debris in a oil gallery to clog it up and make it go pop again.
