screeching noise upon startup
Hi guys,
Sorry but i have another problem (the first ones hopefully sorted now ).
When i start the car after leaving it over night, as soon as i press the start button i hear a screeching noise coming from the engine bay as soon as i start the car, lasting for 1 sec (no more), after the car has started it disappears. It about 2 degrees c in the morning, and its usually damp.
This only happens in the morning, and if the cars been standing at work it does not happen again until the next day.
Any ideas. I have got to say nothing but praise for the quick replys i receive. Again i have a MY00. I feel i'm worrying myself but id rather know what it is.
Hopefully i'm maturing from my newbie status as an S2k owner
Thanks again
Adam

Have a search for "Timing Chain Auto Tensioner".
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...+auto+tensioner
There's a sound clip in there

Definitely not the Timing Chain Auto Tensioner had that replaced on mine. Mine also did the screeching noise but I think it was a coincidence. Had a few chats on here about it and it happens to a few my00 mainly, its like the starter motor stays on for a second longer than you press the start button.
Mine also was prone to it more in the morning and when it was cold and damp.
Had the dealer look and they had no idea and couldn't get it to do it.

My old 54 plate was starting to do this - diagnosed it as the starter motor, although Honda never owned up to any sort of problem. It did it more when it was cold....

Sounds like alternator belt, is it slack? If not then
lightly spray WD40 or similar onto the inside face of the
alternator belt, last thing at night.
(Wont do any harm)
In the morning if it still squeals on start up at least you
can eliminate the belt being worn.

funnily enough mine does this occasionally - again only in the mornings - and my car is garaged so it's never that cold really - did it today but hadn't did it for a good few weeks prior to this...
