Default Scalping day!

Way back from MK via A421/422/423 this evening (detect a theme!!!), and the roads were nice and clear.

Clear enough that a couple of cars decided to try it on...

First, a lady in a Boxster (stock, not -S). Coming off a roundabout (both behind a truck) onto a dual-carriageway, and having already proved to be a 'spirited' driver, she tried to get away from me. Not a hope...from 30-90 leptons I went from a car-length or so behind her to about 4+ car-lengths in front of her. She didn't look happy as I sailed past!!!

Then I came up behind a 335Ci, again behind truck. Cue clear A-road after a van coming the other way, he pulls out and nails it. I anticipate this, am in the right gear already, and follow...and the gap doesn't change!!! Was expecting to get beat, but no...on-cam, the S is a match for the 335!!! He didn't like this, as at the next roundabout he slowed BIG-style, down to 10mph or so, before nailing it up the hill. This time, in 2nd gear and well off-cam, he did get away...4-5 car lengths until I called it a day at about 90 leptons.

But I was still quite chuffed that the little girl has enough in her to play on even terms when you manage the gearbox right!!!

Oh...and best yet, the strut-braces give you SO much more confidence through the twisties...I DO like the A422!!!

Amateur - I'd have dropped to 1st gear at that roundabout

The boxster are quite nice to look at, ive only come across a boxster S (this was actually 2 days ago), lets say he felt silly whilst trying to overtake me, but he was permenatly stuck right behind me :S.

I'm not surprised about the 335. Although the S has substantial bracing to stiffen the chassis it's probably still quite a bit lighter than the 335.

335's have 300bhp and in excess of 300 ft lbs. of torque. The manual version can also hit 60 in 4.8 seconds (5.7 for the auto).

In some tests they are proven to be faster than the outgoing M3. Which is leagues ahead in almost every way to the S.

But of course we all know that's not comparing like with like.

Either said driver was inept. Or he had an auto. Or both.

Or couldn't be arsed.

He WAS trying...the fact that the first time he kept trying to shake me, straights and twisties, for a good couple of miles shows that, and his pratting around at the second roundabout.

My guess is it was because the bhp/tonne isn't THAT different...236/1.25 = 189, 296/1.5 (guess) = 197, while the good launch of the 335 is due to the turbos giving it a LOT better low-down grunt. Of course, he could well have had an auto as well...

And the Auto 'box would have had him in the right gear when he nailed it....

No problems with shrugging off a Boxster, but those 335s are a step ahead of our S2s especially on a straight run from the off.

Nice work and always love a little play!

The difference is minimal until silly speeds imo.
