I'd go the pda route to be honest. It does so much more, only good if you will use 'em though.

As an aside, Colin comes through again and has me pmlotf. Cheers Carper you've brightened my day.

Disagree with me at your peril.

Try my test. Get it wet - it'll piss its pants. Like a papier mache erection.
When would it get wet in a car?

I had a Garmin Street Pilot 3 for the Westie and it happily navigated me across the Alps to Florence. Great, waterproof unit, but too bulky. The new Quest looks v. good.

Replaced the SP3 with a PDA and Tom Tom. Used this combination in the S to tour northern France. It was excellent. Apart from the niggles associated with itinaries, I can't fault it.

Have recently acquired Co-Pilot Live for its routing capabilities (is supposed to be better than TomTom's itinaries) but haven't got to use it in anger yet.

Warmly recommend TomTom on a PDA - if you are going to do touring in Europe, get a 1Gb memory card for the PDA.

If someone is buying a satnav that is portable, then it needs to be tough.

If its staying in the car, buy a din unit.
A din unit would be too low to see on the S and i think the tom tom go type things are portable as in you can easily take it out the car so it doesn't leave mounting holes or get stolen.
