Default Sainsbury's SUL

Given that it's cheap especially if you've got one of their vouchers, does anyone know why Sainsbury's SUL seems frowned on so much

IIRC cheaper supermarket petrol doesn't have the same additives as branded fuel, although I remember someone saying on here previously that it all came from the same refinery.

The S2000 engine is very sensitive, and I certainly only used branded fuel to reduce the risk of upsetting it.

you might as well wee in your petrol tank

I used some once in my CTR on the way home from Devon, so M'way cruising.

I honestly thought the engine was going to blow up, it felt so rough, and omg, I got less than 200 miles to a tank, when on the M'way, on optimax, i'd expect 280 or so from the CTR.

I would never even consider letting it near my S, i nearly had an embelism yesterday when I had to put an emergency tenners worth of tescos fuel in the S.

Optimax all the way.

you won't get as much power...

the engine may start to knock and the ECU adjusts the timing to limit the effect - therefore the engine just won't run as well as it was intended to do..

I once had to put some of this stuff in my S2000 (which does not have anti-knock) and as soon as the car was warm...under load, you could sense the knocking...as soon as I got to a shell garage..was able to refuel, the problem went away.,

It does.

The only difference is about 20ml of additive per lorry load!

And 20ml really makes that much difference?

I've only put Optimax in mine, except for one tank of Ultimate, and once I had to put 95 RON in, on the way to Wales as it was the only thing in the petrol station. Seemed fine tbh but that was only motorway miles.

I've used branded 95 (in the highlands where there is no choice) and it does no harm - the throttle response is sharper with SUL though, and the engine seems to run a bit smoother. Some SULs seem better than others, but any SUL is going to be better than 95, and any branded 95 better than supermarket stuff supposedly.

The Sainsbury's near me now does cheap Super Unleaded so I'm using that now instead of Optimax. Haven't noticed any difference.

And for those of you who claim you can ...
