Thumbs up S2Ks in very cold conditions

I'm off for a skiing holiday in France in March and I was toying with the idea of driving over there.

Is this such a stupid idea that I should just forget all about it?

Someone (who I wouldn't call a driving enthusiast) has told me its a bad idea to have soft tops in very cold dry temperatures, that it could damage it.

If it's going to be anywhere near snow, you'll need snow tyres. Otherwise you'll have to try to go everywhere in reverse and at about 5 mph

As long as you don't put it down or up when its frozen solid. Unless you are in a big town with cleared roads, it would seem a bad idea to try and get through snow bound villages which have compacted snow surfaces for roads. Hire a car its so much better!

Quite possible that RWD would be more fun on snow - given the correct tyres. Power through the rears and steering through the front could mean more traction, but in a FWD weight will be over the fronts.

Anyway, S2k in the snow (anything more than about 1mm) on S02s = going nowhere slowly.

Tempting, but not a good idea. You can get some massive end of season snow storms in March. Too many opportunities for the car to get into trouble on icy snowy roads. And unless it is parked under cover then the weight of snow on the roof can't be good either. Save it till the summer for the Alps.

S has no problems at all in the snow with the right tyres, but that could set you back
