S2K Tuning Tokyo Trip
Hi
I just thought I would share a few pics and experiences of my recent trip to Tokyo. I will only include the car and S2000 related bits as I dont want to bore you with various temples, photos of me eating noodles and my wifes photos of designer shops !
My first car related experience was the drive from the airport. I was a little disappointed to not be seeing 800BHP Skylines racing but really loved seeing a few bodykitted mini vans. They wouldnt work in the UK but with a backdrop of the Rainbow bridge they somehow look "right".
After a visit to the Meiji Jingu Shrine. We decided to visit the Toyota Auto Salon Amlux. It is a six storey futuristic building with all Toyotas current models on display. Obvioulsy my main interest was in the new GT86. There was a dedicated area to the model with two lightly modified examples. One from TRD and the other from Modelista. The great thing was that you could poke, prod and generally have a good nose about. The seating position was very supportive with all controls easily falling to hand. The styling with the added bodykits fell just the right side of tasteful.

It was great to see a major Japanese manufacturer embrace a performance model. There were various simulators and manga liveried models but the only other nod to racing was a Lexus SC430 Super GT car.

We ended the day going to the famous Shibuya Crossing and watching the swarm of humanity criss cross this famous area of the city. I couldnt see how you could drift through the crowd like in the film though !!
The next morning was spent trying to locate Spoon Sports and Type One. We eventually did and the Type One showroom was undergoing a refurb so they only had a few demonstrators on display. An S2000, A DC5 and the Spoon CRZ.

Just up the road from Type One is Spoon Headquarters. They seemed stacked out with parts and the only model we could see was the Spoon liveried old school Civic.
Our next day was a visit to Mount Fuji. The drive around Hakone was the best for spotting Japanese performance machinery. The highlight for me was a Tracy sports bodykitted S2000. Sorry no photo. There were also various R34 Skylines and a rather tired looking NSX.
The Saturday was the highlight of the trip for me as we went to the Super Autobacs in Tokyo Bay. I could tell we were getting close as the local enthusiasts were driving along the main road towards the store. Evo's, Integras and Civics were commonplace.
The store was absolutely massive spread over three levels. The car park was great with everything from wild kitted Supras to a Rolls Royce ( you dont see that in a Halfords car park).

The store was everything you wanted it to be. Mugen, J's Racing, Spoon, Nismo and even a display dedicated to ASM parts for the S2000 ! I was in heaven !I treated myself to a few of the latest magazines from Option, Rev Speed and Vtec Spirits. One came with a free gift.... a muffler towel ! I still dont know what its for but it sits proudly hung at home.
Well thats about it for car related stuff. All told we spent 6 days in Tokyo which was just about enough time to see the tourist highlights and a bit of car related stuff. We visited the Imperiral Palace, Tokyo Tower, Mount Fuji with a ride back on the Bullet Train, Tokyo Sky Tree,Yasukuni Shrine, Akihabara (Electric City) and the Asakusa Kannon Temple.
The car culture in Tokyo is very westernised. In fact the majority of the high end cars are left hand drive which is meant to somehow prove their exotic nature to the locals.
A dream come true for me and somehow I think i will be back.
Feel free to ask any questions and sorry the photos are not that great.

Looks amazing! It's on my list of places to go! (I should go really, my cousin has lived their for 4years).
All that car porn (shops, accessories, tuning parts and modded cars) I'd be like a kid in a candy store!
