I'm not sure i totally agree with the fact that more weight reduces cornering potential.

Take one lotus elise, make an exact copy but everything 20% bigger (20% more powerful, 20% bigger tyres etc and 20% heavier).

In my mind both cars would be able to generate the same level of lateral g force.
You's have to have 20% more gravity as well for that equation to hold true....

Just my 2 pence worth...

[QUOTE=MarkB,Jul 25 2005, 10:00 AM]I have to take issue with this.

A heavier car will have more momentum.

IMO only this is nonsense. A heavy but powerful car will keep up and even beat an S in the bends. It is all about the driver behind the wheel. All those who say that the S will leave other cars for dead on bends either are dreaming or are exceptional drivers. Just my 2p
But Rahula, you were talking about heavy cars, not similar cars to the S..

Now you're talking about Z4, CTR etc

Which is it that you're on about?

but that was my point Steven. A heavy but powerful car will infact keep up with an S and some even not so powerful cars if driven hard will be difficult to loose on twisties.

car/ bhpperton / bhp / weight
330i 153 231 1510
S2000 198 237 1200
M3 219 338 1540
M5 236 400 1700

just for good measure
Breadvan 223 321 1440

p.s those car weights are questionable. I think the S2000 needs a bit added for a European driver and a full tank of fuel. (Thats how the beemers are measured).

I agree......on regular roads something like an RS6 would murder an S2000 in every respect

I would expect that from a 4wd car that has a power to weight ratio of 252bhp/tonne.
