Remember, you can carry much more speed out of a corner in an S2000 meaning you can go faster on the straights. That's why the low powered Caterhams are so fast.

Don't forget the Caterhams are also significantly lighter which offsets the power deficit somewhat.

The talk of Ring times for particular cars makes me laugh - like somehow anybody will be able to turn up and do about the quoted time for their car.
Gan San said he thought the S2K was faster than the regular NSX.
Edit: And the Gan San lap is 8:17 (just been looking), and that's with him being a bit erratic at the start.

I wasn't claiming that re Ring times.
It's used as an illustration of what something is capable of, as its generally a driving god at the wheel with any official posted time.
But I get your point
I think Gan San said he htough it was quicker than the NSX at certain points?
Anyway, to get back OT
Its fast compared to run of the mill stuff, and slow compared to tasty stuff

Doesn't the S still have the most powerful NA 2L production engine around, 8/9 years later? Even the K20 (non CTRR spec), though it may have a fatter tq band, does not have the raw power/tq figures of the regular S F20C.
Stupid stats aside, get in an S with an experienced driver at a track and run against a STOCK, base Evo/Sti of any vintage and I think you would see why this car is so special. Then drive it home in traffic like it's your mother's grocery getter - and again, you will see why it's so special.

I saw a great S2000 video a few years back chasing 360 Ferrari's around a track. Obviously they were pulling away on the straights, but the S2k kept gaining on them in the corners, despite all the shouting people do about Ferrari's handling and heritage.

As per my last post, Nick.
If that were the case, german plod would have speed traps aimed at the vast array of wagons & caravans & MPVs & SUVs queueing all around the ring, because someone had coned off the exit for ten years, 'cause they felt it was good character-building.
Oh, and they'd re-surface the 'Ring in 100yd streches & not join them to the other 100 yd streches, so a GT3 doing more than 30 would lose its front axle.
As the Chinese guy said, "I've had enough of this Fukien Province!"
