Default S2000 vs FD2 CTR

I remember seeing a race on 5th gear where the S lost badly in a race around a short track. Found this on youtube, which has restored the balance to my troubled mind

The car on 5th gear was a highly modified Jap only model, bit of a fix really!

That's not exactly correct the car in fifth gear was a limited productional model from Mugen of 300 units, it was an FD2RR which was was how it left the productiion line. There is only one car on the road in the UK, so I don't think that can be considered cheating although it was not a real comparison. There are several on here who have owned or driven standard FD2's, with equal drivers it would likely be quicker than the S. But then again this is a full 4 seater saloon is there any point in a comparison in the first place?

I've owned one, it's faster, cheaper and easier to drive. I sold it 3 months later, some compromises aren't worth making. From a driving perspective the FD2 is far superior, from every other point of view it just doesn't belong on our roads.

I have always thought the Scots were soft , I assume you are referring to the ride was too firm and harsh for our roads? I was aware you owned one, but wouldn't a decent set of Ohlins or for that matter Nitrons have solved the problem?

I am beginning to feel sorry for the one guy who bought that FD2RR

"Scotts", you mean the folk that make porridge oats? I had a run in Danny's car and a couple of others since then, the ride is harsh but the car handles very well and is quick, maybe a bit extreme for everyday use unless you're prepared for that. The MugenRR might just have been over the top.

The RR has adjustable Mugen/Showa suspension which has similar front spring rates to the standard FD2 but slightly lower rear rates. On the softest setting the suspension is more subtle than that on the standard FD2.

That's what I said.

Modified (by Mugen) and produced for the Jap market (only one made it to the UK by import).

Carry on though...

Driving isnt necessarily about which car is faster; RWD every time for me, loads more fun.

Is it?

I think Sti is correct in that the RR is a production model.
