s2000 vs civic type R
Anyone had any run ins with their s2000 against a civic type R? I had a little play against one the other day and it kills me to admit it but he won... we were both flat out along a stretch of bypass roads slighty damp so I was being as smooth as possible with everything I was doing but still never the less ragging it to keep up.... I feel like ive been conned? civic type r = faster car with more space prehaps? or me not giving it enough welly?... his was an 03 plate mine is V plate '99. Would he have the benefit of better handling in wetter conditions? We were both stock cars... but then again I couldnt see under his bonnet

first jump is pretty important
however, in the dry, the S is faster, if not by a lot, assuming no-one fluffs a change or something
I've had some fun with CTRs
They CANNOT get past from a roll or standing start in my experience, but you will have to use all of the performance
I can pull out at least half a dozen car lengths (difficult to be certain how much safety margin the other driver is leaving of course) and hold it
On the other hand, you can get past one on a straight - if the straight is long enough
All my experiences are dry weather - I would not max out in the damp, period
I'm told the S is much better with some twisties thrown in
I have much less experience of this - other than a couple of roundabouts.
In that case the CTR was making an AWFUL lot of tyre noise and looked to be working very hard to keep up
I really wasn't anywhere near the limit
Nice cars CTRs and definitely punch above their weight.
sorry for the poor punctuation/structure - I'm rushing to go out

I've just sold my CTR (an 03) and am due to pick up my new S after work (can't wait as you can imagine) and changed due to the fact that I wanted what I think is a proper sports car.
The CTR was an amazing car with real chuckability (in the dry) and an excellent engine. It was however a zooped (sp?) up family hatch and therefore IMO lacked some of the sporting dynamics that the S has in spades. I would definitely have one again, should I need the space.
In terms of performance, the S and the CTR are very close on paper and I doubt any difference would be very noticable in the conditions you describe. On a track the CTR has even been shown to be quicker when driven by professionals, although who knows if they really were!
He could also have had some mod done?

If not then of course the CTR, if the other driver is flat out, will be on top.
there is nothing to be ashamed of by losing out to a similar performance car-better to lose and drive safe than to win and drive like a twat

Had a race with one of these on the M56 a week ago. He saw coming, attempted to pull away, let me through in the end, then came after me, but I pulled away no problem. This is on the straight and the S has 20% more power, so its should be a forgone conclusion.
Still, they are great value for money, 200hp for less than
