Sounds rubbish. Smaller car, smaller engine battling with the sodding Mazda MXgayboy.

Sounds credible.

Wouldn't put money on the Type R coming to the UK though.

The "replacement" looks OK to me given the market segment they are going for.

At least the "S" will go out gracefully, finally after nearly 10 years and 100k production, a classic. Hang on to them.

Would stripping 100kg off the weight really make THAT much noticeable difference?
Knock 100kg off the weight and add a few bhp and you have a better handling car with a higher power to weight ratio .......... than a 993.

I wasn't saying it wouldn't. Just a little sceptical that a weight reduction of 7-8% would make that much noticeable difference. I'd thought about it in the terms BB mentioned above (100kg equating to a passenger and half a tank of fuel) and I can't say I remember the car pulling markedly more when 1 up with little fuel than when 2 up with a full tank.

Nor did I didn't see any mention of extra power from the (admittedly quick) skim through the article Nick linked to.

I'm not pooh-poohing the Type R idea. Far from it - I think it would be a welcome last hurrah for a great car. I'm just not sure that what Honda has in mind is the raw, stripped-out no-frills S2000-plus that some people seem to think it will be (or at least would like to see).

It never will be due to cost.

Always better to build your own
