Without wanting this forum to be a blind S2000 appreciation society, I thought it would be worth sharing this with you.

At a Rockingham track day recently I had a go on a wet grip facilty. The idea was to control a tail slide across a slippy surface covered in water.

I was SHIT!

So shit I made the instructor have a go. Thankfully he was shit too and only managed to hold a slight slide on his 4th attempt.

His comment... the sign of a great car.

Basically the car was refusing to let the back end go. To make it go you had to give it a big welly, which then meant the tail action was hard to control.

Just thought this would be of interest given the other threads of RWS and peformance in ther wet.

 

He did it 3 times out of 3 in mine. Must be because I have less of the RWS.

It's a bit depressing when somebody else gets in your car for the first time and drives it better than you can. If anything, my problem was that I was too good at correcting it when I could get it to go, and found it very difficult to fight that instinct. But I agree, it was suprising just how hard you had to try to get it to unstick itself.

 

My instructor complained about the lack off torque with the car. He kept saying if there was more torque it would be easier to let the back out. But he had the back sliding around apparently in full control in all of the 3 times he had a go in my car!

 

Good thread but swear words in the title will have corporate content filters blocking the forum, just the titles mind.

 

Guess that being the first one up, he was struggling in my car, but had mastered it for the others.

Does not change he comment though!

It also made me appreciate the car even more, when put into the hands of an expert.

I went after you nick and the instuctor i had had just been out in an S2k before me. It took him 3 goes to do a decent drift too.

I have to admit i was Shit too. I must have had 50 odd goes round the horseshoe and i only managed to hold one slide all the way round.

I span so many times that at a couple of points i was confused as to whether i was going forwards or backwards.

Jonny from bookatrack didn't seem to have any problems in his elise, a big omega or one of the bookatrack caterhams. That was quite amusing though watching him spin the BatCat through the watersprays with no hood or helmet on! He must have got drenched!

 

One more than me. The closest I got was managing to hold it for about 2 seconds. I was quite pleased with myself at the way I could consistenly turn a spin into a neat 360 and then drive off.

Yes well he was trying in the Elise when I was doing mine, and he was doing worse than I was. I did the session after Nick (2.30 IIRC), I guess you were later and Johnny had the hang of it by then.

Ahhh happy days. I don't know why more people didn't want to do that.
