I stuck a few comments on that thread. One reason I don't really go on PH much, it's full of complete idiots. Half of which have never driven anything more exciting than a Ford Mondeo but consider themselves experts on all things motor-related. It's cringe worthy

Fuchiasteve... aka our very own (that would be telling!) clue... he does a few track days (cough, cough)
I think in truth, "cmoose" posting on P'heads is a Porker lover. People all like different cars, we all go towards different marques and do our utmost to protect them because we like them. Some good points discussed within the thread, overall though I've said for ages to friends and on forums that standing from afar, the 987 Boxster is by far the best used sports car buy right now (after an s2000). It's a true marque sports car with the complete capability of refinement, handling, poise and looks. It has everything, and really looks as close to a 911 as you'll get. In fact, it is often mistaken for one. The earlier 986 is pig ugly, dated and looks nowhere near as good looking as the S2000. Despite cmoose's comments regarding the IMS issue, the 987 does have earlier ones through to 2007 that have suffered issues, at quite a cost. These tend to be harder driven (apparantly) and tend to be the higher milers. All cars have issues, depends if you have plenty of cash to sort. As an infrequent weekender though, there'd be nothing to worry about with the Porsche. It's more about its label though ultimately. Saying "I have a Porsche in the Garage" down the pub, regards you as a t*sser, to some. Saying you have a Honda in the Garage, regards you as a skinter. Or a tight Northerner. Brand scraps always brew up on P'heads, agree to disagree is best on there. Personally, although the Boxster is better, I'd still take the Honda.
The s2000 can be deemed as sorting the men from the boys, you need to be on your toes living on the edge of vtec to stay with the excellent handling Boxster S, round a track of any sorts. The Boxster cruising through its torque band and using sheer grip to stay in front, the thrashy s2000 would need it's neck wringing to keep it near the whining 3.2. The whole fun factor, I guess, is the tough work-out and enjoyment (or not for some) that you get buzzing off the red-line in the Honda. This is what Porsche/BMW owners miss. It begs a question, "can you drive it - PROPERLY?". Because if you can't, you'll sell it in a year or so, for a Z4 Coupe/Conv / Boxster , which are quicker (er) but do all "the work" for you.
Remember the Lotus Carlton? Didn't EVO famously state, "every drive a work-out". M5 was better because it was easier to drive. Secretly, the Lotus Carlton was better to the real petrolhead

I'm awaiting Winfried piping up. The comment is ridiculous though as even the guys there mentioned 'if you hit the bank' as its obviously been done many times before and Win will be the first to admit it was driver error and nothing to do with the car.
It's easy for your average driver to like a car that's fast and easy to drive as it feels 'rewarding' to them but it isn't half as rewarding as driving the S, a car that makes you learn to drive all over again to get the most out of it as well as teaching you to respect the fact that if you do drive it like a complete penis it will gladly put you in a ditch.
