S2000 info please
Hello everybody.
I am looking at getting an S2000 'hopefully' in the next few months and have got a couple of questions for you please. At the moment I own an 04 Civic Type-R which is probably worth, at the minute, about 13k. What year S do you guys reckon I should be looking at, 01/51/02??? What year did the S have the facelift? Whats the best time to buy one i.e Winter/Summer? I would preferably like to do a straight swap with somebody to save the selling malarky if anybody is interested? Is there anything I should be looking out for when buying i.e corroded alloys? I don't want to be spending anymore than my car is worth. Any info would be greatly appreciated

At 13k I think you will be looking at MY00/ MY01. There were facelifts in 2002 and 2004, the most significant changes in 02 was the rear screen which became glass instead of plastic, and the wheels were altered slightly.
The alloys do have a habit of corroding, it's worth checking if they have ever been changed but to be honest there's not a lot you can do to stop it anyway. Check the roof for wear, this is looking to be an issue on some cars at the moment, see the thread for photos of what to look for. There's another issue with seized suspension bushes, find out if the car has had a full geo alignment recently. I think it's difficult to check without having the car properly inspected on a ramp, so might be worth paying for an AA check or something.
Have a look at the FAQ.

Effectively on a "level swap" basis you'll be buying an older car possibly with more miles.
You have a Honda so you are aware of what to expect mechanically from the engine.
You've mentioned the wheels but that's easy to check.
You will find the gearbox quite a bit more "direct" than you are used to. That is normal it may even feel stiff or notchy when cold.
Listen for odd noises from the diff especially a lot of noise on overrun.
Check the hood for wear and tear. Look hard at the seals. A caring owner will have maintained then so they should be well greased with a silicone grease.
Other than that its much as for any other car. Condition and service history is everything.
