Default S2000 in Action! - Autotest - inc vids and pics

Hi all,

I entered an Autotest on Sunday in the S! I knew it would hurt my tyres, but i really wanted to gain the sideways experience on open tarmac. My dad drove the 106 Rallye which is our shared competition car.

My tyres now look a bit sorry after only 5000 miles!

How did the car fare? I haven't tried autotesting myself (was going to have a go in the Locost but never got round to it) but would have thought that the S would be a bit too big and unwieldy wouldn't it?

Looks like top fun.

Can someone please explain what the conmcept of autotests are? I am not sure what is going on there except for a bunch of wheelspins but there has got to be more to it than just hooning about.

Thanks

Actually if he didn't watch it he saved himself a lot of valuable time. I don't know what is wrong with them but the program is just a waste of time. IMO of course. Did anyone watch the program about the MG ZV or whatever it is called? I was going to but didn't get a chance.

I did look but I am sure the clutch will get a hammering but like I said I could be wrong. My gut feel is that torque is the better option rather than HP.

Right,

Well the S2 isnt ideal, yes too big and yes not enough low down torque.

However when I got it right so to speak I managed to get it turning really nicely, however I was inconsitant and could only really do this with space allowing, it was a no go in the smaller boxed off sections where the minis were skipping around! didnt really kill the clutch to be honest, bit smelly here and there.

My Dad was in our 106 rallye, the problem with that was it had too much grip at the back and the handbrake is cr4p. He got second in class however. I quit at test 8 / 12 as my tyres just looked too bad and I thought enough is enough.

All good driving fun and great experience, and also learned that the S2 actually understeers MUCH more than I thought!

Less so if you have a front cross brace and upper strut bar (don't take my inexperienced word for it, Don Palmer's able assistant, Dylan, commented on the difference between my S and an unmodified example when he did an understeering exercise in my S)

Autotesting Looks fun!
