I think it was Moff who posted here recently about a well known problem with the S3 engine - something to do with ignition coils, renders the car undriveable and keeps coming back - sure he will pop up to give you his opinion

I have an S3 (hi moff ) and reliability is bad, I've had no end of problems with it.

Performance is nice, interior is nice, and quattro is nice.... looks a dream too. I'll be sad to see her go.

Also, dealers are iffy - if you want more info PM me

Mrs Blurter had a '99 1.8T Sport Quattro (180bhp). Never felt that quick, but did feel heavy. Dealers where $hite. We saw plenty of them too.

And a very large wallet to run it too.

1.8T's are all notorious for coilpack issues but with 14 million variants sold VAG were not exactly going to issue a recall.

Policy seemed to be replace if the car packs up or replace at service if customer asks / mentions. For some reason, the Audi's were hit worse then the other VAG makes ie Seat, VW and Skoda.

On the tune of the Cupra R again. Forgot to mention only option is recaros and sat nav and you get huge 18 inch seat branded OZ alloys and Brembos as standard.

They are an absolute bargain. Was going to buy an S3 and then sense (and the performance) of the Cupra R won hands down. More practical, cheaper to run, quicker and very strong residuals. Bought one of the first ones that arrived in the Uk and sold it 6 months later back to the same dealer for

I think you need to drive an RX8 to see for yourself, you'll be surprised by how well it goes plus has traction control and a bargain.
