mikdys - running s02's at the moment but they seem to wear so quickly, just wondering if there are any other tyres that people use that are noticably more durable than the s02's??

Paul, the more durable a tyre the less grip it will provide. It all depends on what you are after because if you don't drive the car to its limits then I am sure someone will advise you which tyres to choose but I personally would be reluctant to do that.

Honda must have done thousands of miles of testing and because of performance and price combination chose this setup. All in all I don't think changing to another tyre will make a huge difference to wear rate but I am speaking from no personal experience as I always ran S02's.

I'm running S-03's - be interesting to maybe compare the two cars - I don't live far from you.

Concerning wear (this is going to depend on how you drive and how you use the car to a large extent) I'm looking at just shy of 20,000 miles for the S-03 fronts (with a rim swap half way) and just shy of 10,000 miles for the rears. I've driven the car hard on occasion, but I have done probably twice as many miles in traffic.

I don't know for sure (other than reading the reports on this site) how the two tyre types will compare but I'm guessing that the 02's are better in the dry, the 03's better in the wet and the wear qualities about the same.

Let me know what you think.

I have run standards s02pp's before on other cars, but it might be my imagination but the S2k versions seem to take a bloody long time to warm up and everything can get a little bit lary until they do. Especially in the wet. Had a nice wheel spin on a roundabout yesterday morning trying to pullaway.

I had new s02's fitted all round about 6 weeks ago so i'll see how long they last, they were fitted by honda as part of the deal i got so didn't cost me any extra, you may well be right as i find it handles superbly in the dry but a bit twitchy in the wet, still i suppose thats the nature of the car as much as the tyres, be interesting to compare though, away for a couple of weeks but a mini meet shortly after that may be in order...

Best wear normally means least grip, so I'd be careful about looking for a tyre with this characteristic. I found that the S03s on my Prelude lasted 3-4 times as long as S02PPs, but were understeertastic.
