Thanks for the advice on the GTI-6, I'll stay clear. I used to have a 306 DTurbo, loved it it was great, so I think I'm going to be going back to one of them or a Golf GTDI if I can find one.
I'm off to look at some preludes on autotrader.

Call the buyer and tell them you've had an attack of conscience and the S you sold them is actually two cars welded together and that they didn't ought to buy it, then go out and play in the S and think what you almost did...
I know of a 4th gen. Lude for sale.........

V6 Vectra GSi - great car, if you can get the 2.5 192BHP Machine.
If not, anything with the 2.0 Vauxhall Turbo engine - Astra Coupe at 187 BHP, Astra GSi at 197 are underrated flying machines with easy running costs and cheap servicing. (20k intervals on my 03 Astra GSi!!)

My brother had a Ford Racing Puma, was a great car. Goodish economy reliable but the odd niggly problem. Certainly different and having driven that and an S, the FRP will out corner the S if not in a straight line. Good size boot as well.
Only downside is it's still a Puma but in a way far more special than an S! Cost

Astra Coupe should be ok
Seriously though, if you can't stretch to a tubby, a GSi would be a nice little motor and cheap to run/insure too.
At the end of the day, I've run my Astra for over a year now and not spent a penny on it. It's pokey enough, got 4 seats, a huge boot and every option under the sun. As a daily runner I can't fault it.
