Hey BW - so sorry about the grilles. I suppose they were fine with me cos I don't drive in the wet stuff. You could always email grille tech and tell them about the grilles rusting - I am sure they will replace them free of charge.
OR
I made some custom grilles for my Top Secret bumper and coated them with Hammerite direct to rust metal paint. I coated them with about 7 coats for added protection from stone chipping etc. The paint has a 5 year protection against rust and costs only

I've got no idea what these grilles look like, but I do know a great anti-rust treatment if they are steel and not too fine.
Take 'em to be zinc sprayed. You should find a place locally under metal treatment, shotblasters etc. The treatment is a dull silver and will need to be treated (hammerite is fine) for added protection. Unless the zinc is chipped, I guarantee you they will not rust.
I treated a mild steel garden bench like this ten years ago, followed by one coat of hammerite. It lives 200 yds from the sea and has no rust on it. Beat that!
Doubt it will cost more than a tenner.

My GrilleTechs are very slightly discoloured in places - pretty sure its just faint remains of fly carcass, though.
Only noticeable when standing right in front of the car and stooping to look at the grille. Probably just need a really good scrub.
