Running the lid off my airbox
Hi all,
Took the lid off my airbox today and when for a run
Couldnt believe how much better it sounded, it was brilliant.
Are there any issues to doing this? I couldnt see there would be other than the filter may get dirtier and suck more hot air in / loss of power?
Anyway I intend to run it like this long term but didnt want to do it if there were problems??
thanks
Andy

Andy,
Do a search on air box or air intakes and there's loads of info knocking about on this.
Overall there's not really an issue doing this but if you really like the sound go for a PRM, Ingen or similar intake. Again loads of threads on this.
Happy hunting
Stanza.

Whilst you may experience a small power loss at low revs , it must surely be substantial when the engine needs to breath , taking the lid off , can only reduce the benefits that a pressurised
( although minor ) air box gives.
But , theres nothing like a bit of induction roar on any engine

Guys,
Can one of you explain this potential loss of power from running with no airbox cover?
The way I understand it is if you can get more air/oxygen into the engine, more fuel can be mixed with it, hence more power. That's why cooler air is preferable - it's denser, so the same volume of air will contain more oxygen.
By removing the airbox cover you are allowing a greater volume of air to be sucked into the intake (hence the better sound). Now I understand that this air may be marginally warmer than the air which is sucked in through the tiny funnel when the cover is on, but surely the greater volume offsets the minor difference in temp?
I can't seem to feel much of a difference with the cover on or off.
Have I understood, or am I talking shite?
Cheers

come to the same conclusion, after 3 or 4 days of lid off I def think Im down on throttle response, the car doesnt feel as willing. Lid back on tonight.
