Here's an analysis of the straight line drag performance of an S2000, an E46 M3 and an E39 M5 taken from data provided by www.track-challenge.com

The data they provide includes 0-XXkm/h figures which allows one to calculate the acceleration, speed and thus distance covered for anything up to 200km/h and more importantly the distance covered for certain periods of time.

Essentially, over a 15 second period of time, the M5 will be roughly 40metres ahead of an S2000, which is about 9 car lengths, an E46 will be 52m ahead of an S2000, 12 car lengths. Here's a graph

The distances roughly equate to the BHP/tonne figures given above. The E46 has 10% more and is 10% ahead...interesting...

As much as I love it there is no way in hell an M3 would have put 12 car lengths on my S2000 in that time frame. 5-6 yes, but not 12. I guess until we arrange a number of back to back runs of S2000 vs M3 we'll not know....
